Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers needed at the Alaska Native Medical Center

Volunteers are needed for the following: Bingo Night Hosts, Movie Matinee Hosts, Literacy Advocate, Grief Support Companion, Patient Navigator, and Customer Service Associate. For more information, contact Roberta Webb: 729-1120.

In particular, volunteers are needed to staff the information desk. This requires 20+ people to work 3 hour shifts, 9am to noon or noon to 3pm, Monday through Friday. Ideally, volunteers will commit once a week (e.g., a volunteer would commit to a specific day each week to work their 3 hour shift).

  • The 2008 Long Term Care Grants request for application has been published in the Federal Register. These are grants for $50,000 - 75,000 per year for two years to either plan or implement long term care services. Key Dates: May 2 for mandatory Letter of Intent and June 20 for application deadline. Partnerships with the NRC

  • Alaska Community Services Inc
    Through a Memorandum of Agreement, the NRC and the ACS have established a collaborative relationship to share information on the needs of Alaska Native Elders, to allow for the joint utilization of research data that results from this agreement, and to support Alaska Native Elders and their efforts to preserve their language, culture, and traditions.

ANTHC (Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium) Announcements

  • Look At Race, Ethnicity, and Health [Apr 04, 2008]
    Alaska: The Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation, which is part of the Alaska Tribal Health Consortium, held an Inaugural Raven's Ball fundraiser last week to promote the group's work and to raise money to offset a shortfall in Indian Health Services funding, the Arctic Sounder reports. The foundation has singled out five focus areas: cancer care improvement, wellness and prevention, elder health care, healthy village environment and the Alaska Native Health Professions Scholarship Fund (Ben-Yosef, Arctic Sounder, 3/31).
