CHSW Dean Easley is president-elect of major health association

Cheryl Easley, dean of the UAA College of Health and Social Welfare, was recently elected president of the American Public Health Association (APHA), the oldest, largest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world. Easley's tenure as president of APHA will be a first for Alaska. The APHA, founded in 1872, works to protect Americans and their communities from preventable, serious health threats and strives to assure that community-based health services and disease prevention are universally accessible in the U.S. Dean Easley will replace current president Linda C. Degutis when her term is complete in a year. Easley has been dean and professor for the College of Health and Social Welfare since 2003. The College comprises the School of Nursing, the Justice Center, the Department of Human Services, the Department of Health Sciences, the School of Social Work, the Center for Human Development and other research and academic entities. CHSW offers a variety of certificate, undergraduate and graduate degree options.¬Ý Professional programs housed within CHSW share a common interest in issues that impact the development, health and well-being of Alaska's peoples and communities.
