Health Status of Alaska Native Elders (295 KB, pdf) is a paper based on personal reports of Elders on health disparities. It also contains compiled data from published reports and other available literature to fully describe the health status of Elders in Alaska.

Our View of Dignified Aging (314 KB, pdf) details Elders' values in dealing with the care of Elders, including their desires, expectations, and perceived needs. Interviews for this paper were voice recorded, often in the Mother tongue, then translated and transcribed by local speakers.

Establishing Best Practices for Alaska Native Elders (186 KB, pdf) describes the theories behind current existing community programs that are based on underlying cultural and contemporary values recognized within cultural regions. It describes the need to implement traditional values and customs to provide good care to Native Elders.

Elder Abuse Among Alaska Natives (200 KB, pdf) is a sensitive perspective of problems evolving from the lack of respect shown to Native Elders. It discusses possible causes and responses that communities have formulated, and aims to help communities plan programs that will reduce and prevent Elder disrespect.

Achieving Best Practice in Long Term Care for Alaska Native and American Indian Elders (330 KB, pdf) provides a review of successful tribally run services for Alaska Native elders, tribal programs in other areas of the country, and two models that have not yet been provided in Alaska or in Indian Country.

Boarding School: Historical Trauma among Alaska's Native People (347 KB, pdf) examines the traumatic impacts of the Wrangell Institute Boarding School and the significant role the Episcopal Church of Alaska played in recognizing, implementing, and organizing a "Healing Convocation" for some of its parishioners. It also discusses the broader aspects of historical trauma among Alaska's indigenous people.

Alaska Native Elders and Abuse: Creating Harmony by Voicing Traditions of Listening (547 KB, pdf) synthesizes extended conversations with Alaskan Yup'ik/Cup'ik, Athabascan, Aleut, Inupiat, Alutiiq, and Tlingit Elders on the origin of elder abuse, and shares ways to reduce and control these occurrences. This report is intended for Western practitioners, Alaska Native health organizations, and those involved in program design and policy making.
